Sometimes in the early morning during carnival in Venice, Italy, the fog moves in and makes San Marco Square both eerie and captivating. I took this shot at dawn, and the cobalt blue sky was just beginning to show. Notice how the light that emanates from the lamps flares out in the fine mist. I hand held this shot at 1/40th of a second with a 14mm wide angle lens. With extreme wide angles, you can get away with slower shutter speeds. A tripod in this circumstance is inhibiting, and with the ability to raise ISO settings to levels unheard of when we shot film, I'm using a tripod less and less now. I used 3200 ISO, and in post-processing I applied Neat Image software to mitigate the noise. My lens aperture was f/3.2, and I used daylight white balance.
