Many places in the U.S. have autumn colors, but New England is unique in that there are so many colorful, rustic, and historic subjects to use as foregrounds. For example, covered bridges, grist mills, quaint bed and breakfast establishments, farm equipment, and red barns all make interesting elements in conjunction with the great colors in the leaves. Here the saturated red color of the b & b against the forest is visually arresting, and the purple flowers add to the impact. I took this shot with a 24-105mm lens set to 32mm, and the settings were 1/125, f/7.1, and 250 ISO. Colors in nature and even in architecture appear more saturated when the lighting is soft and diffused. Contrast is at a minimum and exposures are simplified. You don't even need to look at the histogram.
