It's snowing here in middle Tennessee right now, so that inspires me to post more snow pictures. I photographed this female snowy owl in Canada during one of my workshops there, and I was very impressed with how my previous camera, the Canon 1Dx Mark II, was able to follow focus on the bird as it flew directly at the camera. I used a frame rate of 14 frames per second and shot in short bursts of 2 to 4 frames as it approached flying just a couple of inches above the snow. My settings were 1/3200, f/11, and the ISO was set to auto which, given this overcast lighting condition, turned out to be 1600. In post-processing, I lightened the image because I didn't use any exposure compensation. My rationale in doing that was to prevent the white snow from blowing out. Due to the overcast, the image was ever so slightly bluish. In the hue/saturation dialog box within Photoshop, I desaturated just the blue color and that made the snow white just as I'd seen it. I also lightened the eyes and added a bit of saturation to the yellow irises. Again, they were slightly underexposed and a bit bluish, and these adjustments brought back the image to what I saw.
