We had snow in middle Tennessee yesterday. It was only an inch or so, but I love photographing my great Pyrenees, Princey, against the white background. He is a big dog at 155 pounds, but what makes this picture successful in my opinion is the low angle from which I took the shot. Low perspectives give animals (and other subjects like fashion models) greater stature. Big animals seem bigger, as in this example. I don't especially like the grass sticking up in the snow, but we just didn't have enough snowfall for optimum conditions. In winter, the angle of the sun is low in the sky, and that makes for very attractive lighting. My settings for this were 1/1250, f/11, 400 ISO and I used a 100-400mm Canon zoom. I made no exposure compensation for the white on white subject matter. I simply lightened the image in Adobe Camera Raw. Princey loves the cold. My vet said that it's not possible to make these dogs too cold.
