I took this shot in White Sands National Monument, New Mexico, with the Mamiya 7 medium format camera and a 43mm wide angle lens -- equivalent to a 21mm in the full frame digital format we use now. I took this with Velvia 50 transparency film, which I used for all my landscape work, and in those days I used a tripod for virtually all of my shooting. I didn't have the immediate feedback on the back of my camera with respect to exposure, so I had to get it right the first time. Of course, I didn't know how accurate the exposures were until I returned home and got the film developed. At the time (the 80's), no one had conceived of HDR. The sun star resulted from using a wide angle lens in conjunction with a small lens aperture -- f/32 in this case.
