The advantage of going on safari in a private reserve is that you are not constrained to the tracks. The drivers can go anywhere you find animals. I shot this picture of a wild dog as we were following a pack of them on the hunt. It was a wild ride because we weren't on any road at all. We drove over logs, bushes, rocks, and small mounds to follow the dogs. This image -- which almost looks like a Hollywood pose -- lasted for less than a second. Because the wild dog was on a mound and my Land Rover was in a small depression, I was able to capture this elevated portrait. I was shooting with a 500mm Canon f/4 telephoto plus a 1.4x teleconverter which gave me 700mm of focal length. This image is uncropped. My settings were 1/1000, f/5.6, and 1600 ISO.
