This is the stunning staircase in the Rookery Building in Chicago. It was completed in 1888. I shot this with both a 14mm as well as 16mm focal length; this is the latter. No tripods are allowed, but to be honest in order to shoot straight up like this meant a tripod would have been extremely awkward to use. My settings were 1/125, f/5.0, and 1000 ISO. I used only ambient light. Regarding depth of field, notice I used a relatively large lens aperture yet I have complete depth of field. The reason for this is wide angle lenses are focused to infinity at approximately their focal length in feet. In other words, a 16mm lens becomes infinity at about 16 feet. Everything beyond that distance is going to be sharp at any aperture.
