I began my Carnival in Venice tour yesterday, and as usual the photography is amazing. The costumes range from beautiful to intriguing, and from outrageous to fanciful. I haven't worked on any of the hundreds of pictures I took today, so I'm uploading one from last year. When you shoot fast during any kind of festival, backgrounds often suffer. It's just not possible to have ideal backgrounds behind all the subjects you shoot. That's why I'm always taking pictures that could serve as background replacements. This picture is an example. There are two philosophies when it comes to taking photographs. You can document what you see, or you can treat photography as an art form and create whatever you see in your mind. I do the latter.
