For this extreme wide angle shot in Lalibela, Ethiopia, I used a Sigma 14mm f/1.8 lens. The immediate foreground is only about 16 inches from the lens. To obtain complete depth of field in which both the foreground and the distant rock-hewn church are sharp, I used f/16. My other settings were 1/250 and 2000 ISO. This is 12th century St. George's church. What's remarkable about the churches of Lalibela is they were carved out of a rock plateau. They were not built in the traditional way where blocks of stone are placed on top of other blocks. Instead, rock was removed from here, and the church is what was left. It is the original bedrock. Conceptually, this is simply brilliant, and the painstaking workmanship is behind compare. When I was there last time, I encountered Christian pilgrims who had walked barefoot two hundred miles just to see this holy site.
