This is what I consider an extreme use of a wide angle lens. Placing it within two to four feet of the foreground means that you'll get the maximum amount of distortion and exaggeration. With bold graphic lines like these columns on the Roman ruins of Merida in Spain, the perspective is seemingly exaggerated beyond what you would expect. When you use the lens like this, it's important to use a small enough lens aperture for as much depth of field as possible. Even with an ultra wide angle lens like a 14mm, which is what I used for this picture, you need a small aperture to regain the depth of field that is lost by placing the lens so close to the foreground.
