This is the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. The hexagonal basalt structures were formed when hot lava was solidified by contact with the cold sea. I used a 14mm wide angle lens for the shot to dramatize the foreground -- i.e. to make it disproportionately large compared to the background and to give the image a sense of depth. I used a tripod, and my settings were .6 seconds, f/22, and 100 ISO. My point of focus was about 5 feet from the camera. I determined this number by dividing the focal length of the lens by three -- 14/3 = 14.66. Given the composition, the lens, and the f/stop, this point of focus will produce the most depth of field possible notwithstanding the technique of focus stacking.
