Ultra low angled shots of wildlife are especially dramatic because we never see this perspective – unless it’s just before being eaten or trampled upon. I took this shot of a bull elephant in a subterranean blind in which I was seated at water level. The one-way glass prevented the animals from seeing my photo tour group and I. One f/stop of light was lost due to the density of the glass, but it was essential to protect us from harm. The body of water that attracted wildlife was very small, and I estimated the elephant’s trunk was about 8 feet from the camera! I used a 24mm wide angle lens, and I replaced the white sky in post-processing. The settings were 1/160, f/7.1, and 6400 ISO. I used Topaz DeNoise AI to eliminate excessive noise. My next African safari will be in March, 2026.
