My goal in a wildlife workshop is to capture natural action. Ever though the animals are captive, they have access to large compounds that offer the same environments in which they live in the wild. Stalking, running, climbing, playing -- these are the images I seek. A static pose makes a strong picture as well, but it's the action pictures I really want. That's why my shutter speed is so fast, and that's why I watch the animals through the viewfinder. Things happen fast, and a moment's hesitation means the photo opportunity is lost. I captured this bobcat as it jumped onto a tree, and it stayed there for probably two seconds. My settings were 1/1250, f/8, and 2000 ISO. I used a Canon 100-400mm lens for the image.
