Digital photography makes challenging exposure situations easy. All you really have to do is look at the image on the LCD screen on the back of the camera and, if necessary, tweak the exposure using the exposure compensation feature. That's it. That technique is very useful when photographing white subjects on white backgrounds. This little arctic fox was so adorable, but it never stopped moving for more than a fraction of a second. I captured this eye-level shot with a 100-400mm Canon zoom. The diffused light was ideal to minimize contrast and prevent the snow from blowing out. My settings were 1/1600 (to freeze the frenetic movements of the fox), f/11, and 1600 ISO.
