Morocco is famous for fossils. My photo tour group visited an amazing outlet for some of the best fossils I've ever seen. This is a crinoid, a marine animal that lived 300 million years before the dinosaurs evolved. It's hard to get your mind around that. So, this animal thrived between 550 and 600 million years ago, and remarkably we can see it's anatomical structures clearly. To make the colors stand out prominently, my guide threw some water on the stone slab. That was like adding contrast and color saturation without using any digital assistance. When I photographed it, I made sure the back of the camera, i.e. the plane of the digital sensor, was parallel with the plane of the fossil because that insured complete depth of field. I used a 24-105mm lens, and my settings were 1/500, f/11, and 1250 ISO. In post-processing, I did add clarity and contrast to further add visual impact.
