Sculptures in museums are often placed in less than ideal environments when considered from a photographic perspective. I captured this ancient Roman marble work of art in the Museum of Ephesus in Turkey, and the original background was busy and distracting. So, I used the pen tool make a precise selection around the sculpture and the base, copied it to the clipboard in Photoshop with Edit > copy, and then experimented with it being placed in the lobby of the Milwaukee Art Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The original color of the base was dark red, and I thought that clashed with the blue tones of the architecture. I desaturated the red color to make it black, and now I think it looks a lot better. Great works of art need to be displayed commensurate with their greatness, and if museums don't have the space or the forethought to do so, we can make that happen in Photoshop.
