I photographed this male red cardinal drinking at a small pond from a blind in south Texas. The blind was built so photographers could shoot from water level for intimate portraits of birds or mammals. This is part of a photo workshop I'm conducting in April, 2023. My camera settings were chosen for birds in flight which is why the shutter speed and the ISO are so high. Nevertheless, with Neat Image Software (I also use Topaz DeNoise often) I was able to eliminate the noise completely. I used a 400mm focal length, and I shot from a tripod with the image stabilizaiton turned off. IS (or VR) is not needed when using a tripod and when the shutter speed is fast. The battery is drained faster with the stabilization left on, and with mirrorless cameras that's important to keep in mind. My settings were 1/3200, f/11, and auto ISO. The ISO turned out to be 12,800.
