I captured this collared aracari toucan in Costa Rica. The branch on which it was perched was placed above a large plate with various types of fruit to attract birds, and I was on the porch outside the restaurant of the lodge I was staying in photographing a parade of exotic species of birds. Notice how effective the dark background is in making the bird stand out. Because the light level was low and depth of field was an issue (you can see how the perch is only partially sharp because it angled away from the camera), I had to wait until the huge beak was approximately on the same plane as the body. Only then would I have enough DOF to cover most of the bird. My settings were 1/320, f/4.0, and 1250 ISO. I shot with a 500mm f/4 Canon telephoto mounted on a tripod.
