I photographed this arctic fox during my last winter wildlife workshop in Montana. As the fox ran around the snow-covered hillside and played with his canine friends, it was challenging to get a nice pose in which the fox is sharp because they are extremely fast. If it weren't for super fast autofocus and a high speed frame rate, it would be almost impossible to get a good picture. I know many photographers purposely overexpose white subjects on snow to compensate for the underexposed images caused by the camera's meter trying to make the white scene 'middle gray'. I don't do this because I'm so afraid of blowing the highlights -- i.e. spiking on the right in the histogram. Instead, I let the images go somewhat dark and then, in post-processing, I lighten the digital files to taste using the exposure slider in ACR. The settings for this shot were 1/1250, f/11, and 640. My next winter wildlife workshop is February 1 -5, 2022.
