The Palouse is an area in eastern Washington state that's known for beautiful rolling landscapes, red barns, dilapidated structures, and picturesque farms. There is an elevated vantage point on a rise in the topography called Steptoe Butte, and that's where I took this picture of sunset edge lighting the contours of the land below. This commanding view really turns the landscape into a work of art. I used a 400mm focal length because the compression of the hills resulting from the long lens created an attractive composition. My settings were 1/250, f/8, and 100 ISO. In post-processing, I worked the shadows and highlights sliders in ACR to make sure I retained as much detail as possible throughout the image.
