In order to capture the saturated and intense colors of sunrise and sunset, it's best to use daylight white balance instead of auto white balance. AWB wants to 'correct' the red and yellow colors in the sky to make them more neutral, and this removes the beauty that everyone loves. I photographed this iconic scene on the Island of Santorini in Greece, and to add more visual impact I increased the color saturation in Photoshop using Image > adjustments > hue/saturation. I also added the crescent moon. To do that, I made a rough selection with the lasso tool of a moon against a black sky from another photo, including some of the sky, copied it to the clipboard with Edit > copy, and then pasted it into the Santorini photo with Edit > paste. To eliminate the black sky around the moon, I used the 'lighten' blend mode. This command is found in the layers palette in the submenu found there.
