When my wife and I arrived in Venice today, and my friend and photography student Robin Yong had a surprise waiting for me in our hotel room. One of my favorite models, Solange Meren, was already there in a stunning purple costume, and she posed for several members of my group and I in the beautiful bedroom suite in the hotel. For this picture, I stood on a chair and shot downward with a 14mm Sigma f/1.8 lens. I used tungsten white balance due to the incandescent light fixtures, and I hand held the camera. My settings were 1/100, f/3.2, and 2500 ISO. Note that depth of field was not an issue here, and that allowed me to use a large lens aperture. This was due to the fact that (1) the camera was far enough away from the model, (2) 14mm lenses have phenomenal depth of field, and (3) the back of the camera was roughly parallel with the model on the bed.
