I photographed this cheetah at a waterhole in Kenya during the middle of the day. The light was harsh, the eyes of the cat were dark because of the shadows from the slightly protruding brows, and the colors were washed out. To make this image much better in post-processing, I moved the highlights slider all the way to the left and the shadows slider all the way to the right. That solved most of the problems. I then added color saturation with the vibrance slider plus some clarity. Following that, I opened the image in Photoshop and used the dodge tool to lighten those intense yellow/orange eyes. I used a Canon 500mm f/4 telephoto plus a 1.4x teleconverter giving me 700mm of focal length. My settings were 1/1600, f/11, and 800 ISO.
