Sometimes during my frog and reptile workshop, a frog assumes a comical pose, and if we're lucky it will stay like that long enough for several pictures. This cinnamon frog from southeast Asia held this pose for a least 10 minutes, and this allowed me to experiment with the direction of light. For this shot, I took the ring flash off the 50mm macro lens and held it in front of and below the frog. The flash head was still connected to the power supply by a short, thick cable. In macro photography, light falloff occurs very quickly, and that accounts for the background going dark. I used f/32, manual exposure mode, 400 ISO, and the flash was set to the automatic exposure mode, ETTL. The shutter speed, which doesn't affect the exposure, was set to one of the sync speeds, 1/200 in this case.
