I photographed these crowned cranes in flight in the Masai Mara Conservancy in Kenya. In our Land Rover, we drove closer and closer to the birds until they took flight. There were a couple of out of focus zebras in the background, and I cloned them out because they were distracting. Usually with flying birds, I shoot with a shutter speed of 1/3200. Because cranes are large and don't fly fast, I slowed the shutter down to 1/2500. This helped keep the ISO low when using auto ISO. I used f/11 as the aperture which provided enough depth of field to render the birds sharply, and the ISO ended up being 640. I used manual exposure mode, and the focus points were set to a center cluster of 15 points. My focal length was 200mm.
