This is the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia showing Dubrovnik illuminated at twilight. I waited until it got dark enough for the town's lights to come on, and I could still see a bit of color in the western sky from the sunset. To give the illusion of depth in a two-dimensional photograph, I used a 24mm wide angle lens and found an attractive foreground to create what I call the 'classic landscape technique.' My lens aperture was f/22 for complete depth of field, and the lens itself was only about two feet from the flowers. This made the foreground disproportionately large. I focused to eight feet from camera position -- 24mm divided by three, then converted to feet. That's my formula for achieving maximum depth of field given the focal length of the lens and the composition (this is virtually identical to the hyperfocal distance). I took this image with an ISO of 320 and a shutter speed of 30 seconds.
