Kotor, Montenegro is one of the prettiest medieval towns I've seen. Everything is built of stone, and the streets are so narrow that no cars enter the old city because they just don't fit! It was built at the base of rugged mountains, and the early inhabitants still felt the need to construct a fortified wall that hugs the sheer face of the granite. There is a path that follows the defensive walls, and from there you can gain a beautiful view of the city below. This is a 5-frame HDR composite. At twilight, especially, this is essential to expand the dynamic range and show detail in both the shadows and the highlights. If you take a single image, the contrast is too much for the digital sensor to handle and all the shadows go black. I used a one f/stop increment between shots, and I used f/16 with 500 ISO. I captured this with a 24-105mm lens.
