Dark Hedges

I have spent most of my life searching for great subjects to photograph. Great subjects make great pictures. This stretch of road in Northern Ireland called Dark Hedges is one of the places I first saw online and had to visit. I've now been here several times with photography tours to Ireland, and everyone in my groups say it's one of the highlights of the trip. The orange light on the trees are the last few rays of sunlight in the evening. This is not a heavily trafficked road, but cars do pass by and you have to be patient to get a clear shot like this. Two photographic factors were important here: 1) I had to use a telephoto lens to visually compress the trees. A wide angle lens just didn't look good. 2) Complete depth of field was critical. There was too much beautiful detail that had to be tack sharp. I used a 200mm focal length lens on a tripod, and my settings were 2.0 seconds, f/32, and 200 ISO.
