I've been leading photo workshops in Venice since 2006, and before this one I've only seen thick fog once. Venice is mystical when visibility is lowered due to fog, and this shot is an example. The canal virtually disappears about 100 feet away; Had a model been in the foreground, he or she wouldn't be as affected by the fog simply due to distance. So, I composited a model into the background and then used Edit > fill in Photoshop to fill the selected model with 30% white. That lowered contrast and simulated the foggy environment even though in this composition she would have been close to me. My settings for the background were 1/125, f/4.0, and 320 ISO.
