A lot of people don't like the exaggerated look of HDR, and in my free monthly eMagazine, Photo Insights, I outlined a post-processing procedure in Photoshop to create realistic HDR images. Nevertheless, I still like the dream-like look of HDR composites in which the contrast is lowered so much and the colors are pumped such that the image looks like pure fantasy. I photographed this fallen tree next to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, and I took three frames in 3 f/stop increments for the final composite. The more contrasty the scene, the more images you need to take OR the greater the exposure between frames. That's why I set the camera to take the pictures with three f/stops between each frame. My ISO here was 640 and the lens aperture was f/16.
