This is not AI. It begin with a simple portrait of a young woman, and then I selected one half of her face and mirrored it. I then blended the symmetrical face with a fractal (an abstraction generated by the iPad plugin, Frax) using the 'multiply' blend mode in the Layers palette within Photoshop. Next, I combined another fractal with the composite and used a layer mask to erase some of the design that interfered with the face. When you combine special effect techniques, you often end up with images that are comprised of photographs but end up looking like paintings. Sometimes I have a preconceived image in mind, and sometimes my experimentation leads me down a visual path totally unexpected.
