This is the remarkable Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore with its huge, elongated pool cantilevered out to one side. Singapore's independence from Malaysia happened on August 9, 1965, and the celebrations are huge. This is a practice display of fireworks in preparation for the big day, and the practice session was quite impressive itself. The fireworks were seen between the hotel and the city skyline, but as I was in position waiting for the show to begin, I took this picture of the impressive hotel at twilight behind me. It would have been great if the fireworks bursts were behind the hotel, but they weren't. So, I moved them there. I used two separate bursts, and in Photoshop selected the cobalt sky and pasted them into that selection. Using the blend mode 'lighten' (found in the layers palette) the black night sky disappeared and the colorful streaks of fire were left. My settings for the hotel shot were 1/4, f/8, 1600 ISO, and the settings for the fireworks were 2.5 seconds, f/11, and 200 ISO.
