When I conduct my White Horses of the Camargue photo tour in southern France, one afternoon is spent photographing migratory birds in a fabulous avian refuge just a mile from our hotel. There are literally thousands of flamingos that visit the refuge, and this provides a great opportunity to photograph these birds (and many others) as they land in the water and take off from it. Here a flamingo is landing about 30 feet in front of me. My settings were 1/1000, f/7.1, and 250 ISO, and my frame rating was 14 frames per second. The ability of modern mirrorless cameras to follow focus on fast-moving subjects allows us to take pictures that where virtually impossible in the past. My next White Horses photo tour will be in May, 2023.
