Like the wolves I posted yesterday, foxes are incredibly fast. They are constantly in motion. I'm so grateful for fast autofocus -- I can't believe in the film days I used to photograph wildlife with a manual focus camera. The two animals on the left are silver foxes, and the one on the right is a cross fox -- a cross between a silver and a red fox. Because the snow wasn't deep, there were a lot of distracting grasses sticking up as well as pine needle debris on the surface of the crusty snow. So, I found a rock face with clean snow, photographed it, and cloned from one photo to another to make the snowy environment look pristine. Then, I added the mountain landscape with a layer mask to blend the low clouds with the snow. This landscape was actually behind me as I faced the foxes. I added it give this picture a sense of depth and context. My settings were 1/1250, f/11, and 2000 ISO. I had set the exposure mode to manual and the ISO to auto, and I used a center cluster of 9 focus points.
