This is a spotted glass frog I photographed during one of my photo tours to Costa Rica. I was using a 100-400mm telephoto which meant depth of field was quite shallow especially because I was only about four feet from the frog. The background forest is attractively out of focus, but you can see the frog's feet at the bottom of the frame are slightly soft. I was using f/10, which was a compromise. Because the ambient light was muted, I had to use 8000 ISO. I would have liked to shoot this at f/16 or f/22 to insure complete DOF on the frog, but that would have pushed the ISO to 25,600. I've taken pictures at this ISO setting and they turned out well, but ultimately they are not as good as when lower ISO settings are used. The shutter speed was 1/500 which was fast enough to mitigate camera movement. To deal with the noise, I used Neat Image software.
