This is a natural travertine rock formation in Turkey called Pemukkale. The mineral-rich bluish thermal water cascades down a series of terraces creating texture, color, and form in beautiful ways. I shot this with a 105mm medium telephoto focal length to show a certain amount of compression. F/11 provided enough depth of field in this situation. Because of the rich detail in this composition, it was essential to have complete DOF. Anything less and I would have trashed the image. The partially cloudy sky created the sheen on the water, and therefore there was a certain amount contrast I had to neutralize in post-processing using the 'highlights' and 'shadows' sliders in Adobe Camera Raw. My shutter speed was 1/30th of a second, and I used a tripod. The ISO setting was 400.
