In many situations I use my iPhone to take a test shot to see if I like the results. It's like pre-visualizing. In the past, photographers used Polaroid prints in the studio to test lighting, exposures, shadows, etc. At an old mill in Fayetteville, Georgia, I used my iPhone 13 to take some closeup images of falling water. The inherent speed of the built in shutter surprised me -- the water was quite sharp. I then brought out my Canon R5 and 100-500mm and took a number of tight shots using a super fast shutter speed to guarantee the incredibly fast moving water was tack sharp. The settings for this picture were 1/6400, f/7.1, and 1250 ISO. I really could have used a slower shutter, but I erred on the side of maximum sharpness. Our eyes could never see this type of image. Only with the aid of our sophisticated cameras can we see and appreciate this kind of detail in nature.
