This is the beautiful medieval village of Lacoste in Provence. The golden light of sunrise made the architecture come alive, and I photographed the scene from the top of a staircase. The original door on the structure in the middle was uninteresting, so I photographed an arched lavender-painted door behind me -- just 30 feet away -- and replaced the original rectangular, brown door with the more engaging element. I used a 16-35mm wide angle lens. This is a 5-frame HDR sequence with one f/stop increments between frames. I used daylight white balance to render the golden light as I saw it. Auto white balance (AWB) would 'correct' the color in the image and remove the red/yellow tones. Finally, I replaced the solid blue sky with clouds.
