Venetian carnival images are beautiful in and of themselves, but the fantasy designs and medieval atmosphere seem to be perfect for artistic interpretation. Backgrounds can be replaced, colors changed, composites can be made, painterly techniques can be applied, etc. Over the years I've done a lot of that kind of work. Here, I replaced the background, changed the flooring, and altered the colors. My settings for the original image were 1/13, f/4.0, and 1000 ISO. I used a tripod, and the main illumination came from a bank of large windows. Exposing for the model made the cavernous room dark, so I replaced that portion of the composition with a separate shot of a wall in the same palace.
