This is the incredible ceiling of the 'Arab Room' in 11th century Cardiff Castle in Wales. The castle was originally built by the invading Normans on a 3rd century Roman fort, and over the centuries modifications have been made. This room dates from 1881. It is made of wood and decorated with gold leaf. I used a 24-105mm lens for this shot, and in composing it I paid careful attention to how the camera was oriented to underscore the remarkable symmetry and design. The room was quite dim, thus my settings were 1/60, f/4.0, and 4000 ISO. The lighting was beautiful but very yellowish and contrasty. Therefore, I chose tungsten white balance, and In post-processing I had to lighten the shadows and darken the highlights which was followed by the addition of clarity to increase the visual impact.
