This is the same Tianzi mountain range in China that I posted yesterday. Early morning is usually pretty incredible with low clouds and fog backlit by the sun. Because of the wind, the scene changes constantly as the clouds swirl around the jagged peaks. I was shooting almost continuously for at least 20 minutes. HDR is not really feasible in a situation like this because of the movement of the clouds. Therefore, in post-processing I had to open the shadows and tone down the brilliant highlights around the sun to make the contrast look good. To get ahead of the Chinese tourists and their self-sticks ("Here I am in front of this view, and here I am in front of that view, ad nauseum), my photo tour group left the hotel at 4am to gain the best vantage points. My settings were 1/15, f/22, 640 ISO, and I took the shot at 105mm. Obviously I used a tripod.
