This is not a composite. It is a straight, unmanipulated image I captured at the Giraffe Manor located about a half hour outside of Nairobi, Kenya. The people who own this estate, now a very expensive bed and breakfast, have been feeding giraffes for decades. The food handed out is corn in pellet form, and I had the delightful experience of feeling a giraffe's coarse tongue as it took the food out of my hand. The giraffes come by and stick their long necks into the windows and doors (including the windows on the second floor) hoping to get lucky with a snack. I took this picture with fill flash so the exposure on the foreground matched the exposure outdoors. I used a 50mm lens, and my settings were 1/250, f/9, and 160 ISO. This is one of my more memorable images from Africa.

Jim - Hi Rosemary, I took this in 2007. I believe it was published in Petersen's Photographic Magazine or possibly one of the Shutterbug publications.

Rosemary Sheel - When did you shoot this? I think I saw it in a magazine years ago.
