Lake Bled in Slovenia is beautiful from every angle. On my first trip there I was lucky to get this amazing cloud formation that in essence framed the lovely island in the middle of the lake. I include this place on my Balkans photo tour next May that includes Slovenia, Croatia, and Montenegro. This is a part of Europe that few Americans have explored, but it's truly stunning. In this shot, it was important to maintain complete depth of field because even though the reflection is abstract, it needs to be sharp. My settings for this picture were 1/640, f/16, 200 ISO, and I used a 70-200mm lens set to 70mm.

Rosemary Sheel - One of my favorites!!! Who knew that the reflection had to be in focus???

Jim - Thanks, Rosemary. Yes, many people overlook the fact that a reflection -- or any abstraction -- should be sharp. It's counterintuitive, but unless you want a haze of out of focus color, abstracts always need to be tack sharp.

Jim - Thanks so much, Denny. I was lucky to get this, but then I've seen a ton of pictures of this lake in many different kinds of lighting and atmospheric conditions and it's always beautiful.
I hope the New Year is a pain-free time for Connie.
