In my recent photo tour to the lavender fields of Provence, France, I had a driver (Andrej) for the second van who is also an excellent photographer. Both of us had done a lot of research in finding great locations, and this particular composition was one that Andrej found online. So, when we were scouting, we found this place during the middle of the day when the light was terrible. In addition, the sky was hazy-white and the colors were dull and uninteresting. I grabbed a quick shot to connect a visual with a GPS coordinate. When we returned with the group at sunrise a few days later, the farmer who owned the property didn't want us on his land. My group still took fantastic pictures that morning from the main road, but this great angle eluded us. Using Photoshop, I replaced the sky, pumped the color, and added the trees. There was a tree in the original composition, but it was not as nicely shaped as these trees I used from a previous trip to Provence. My settings for the midday landscape picture were 1/400, f/36, 1600 ISO, and I used a 400mm focal length which produced the compression of elements.
