I'm in the Palouse area of northeastern Washington state at the moment enjoying a workshop given by my friend Scott Stulberg. We light painted a tree and a barn last night, and due to the cloud cover we didn't have a chance to capture the Milky Way. So, instead of settling for a mundane sky, I added a shot in which I captured cloud to cloud lightning. The settings for the light painting were 30 seconds, f/2.8, 2500 ISO. The flashlight used to paint the trees and the barn with light was used from an angle of approximately 45 degrees.

Jim - Hi Ian, The reason I have so much DOF is because I used a 15mm lens. Wide angle lenses have phenomenal depth of field. Thanks for the compliment on the image.

Ian - Hi Jim,
Great photo, but how did you get the depth of field with such a low f. stop?
