We encountered a large pride of lions this morning, and in my 22 trips to Africa, I’ve never seen such amazing and wonderful interactions between mothers and cubs. There were about 12 very young cubs and two adult females, and they were playing, wrestling, climbing all over each other, and even attacking small bushes. This little guy was having a blast. I waited until his face turned toward me to fire off a few frames at 14 fps. I used a 70-200mm telephoto, and my settings were 1/500, f/5.6, and 1000 ISO. The sun had just come up, and instead of direct, low angled sunlight -- which would have been too golden yellow on the cats -- I preferred the diffused light from the shadow of one of our vehicles. Tomorrow, I'll post a very cute picture of a pile of lions.
