This is a family of snub-nosed monkeys I photographed in central China on one of my photography tours there. They are wild, but the rangers in the national park leave bananas out for the monkeys and they come down from the mountains twice a day for the free food. That gives photographers a great opportunity to take close up pictures of these intriguing, blue-faced primates. I captured this image with a 100-400m telephoto, and the settings were 1/500, f/7.1, and 2000 ISO. The ISO setting was high because this area is in the shadow of high mountains and the sky was overcast. When the sun broke through the clouds, I didn't shoot. There was too much contrast and unattractive shadows. I waited for another cloud to obscure the sun. The soft and diffused lighting was the ideal.
