This is the same beautiful model from yesterday's post, and this time I came in tight on her face. What is interesting about this is the light. It looks sophisticated like only an accomplished studio photographer would know how to set this up, but the truth is this couldn't have been easier. I asked Lauren stand in front of a wall and had her face a glass door in my house. That's it. The diffused daylight entering the room illuminated her face. The light fall off meant that the wall was much darker than her face, which is exactly what I wanted. To soften her skin and make her look almost porcelain, I used the software Portrait Professional. To me, that transitioned this image from a photograph to a painting. My settings were 1/200, f/5.6, 1250 ISO, and with a 24-105mm lens I used the 105mm setting. Even for people who have a beautiful nose, the medium telephoto flattens it due to the slight compression characteristic of telephotos. In a very subtle way, that adds to the attractiveness of the subject.

Bob Vestal - Lovely portrait and beautiful model. For comparison, it would be interesting to see her image before using the software. I have tried using it a little and generally like the results. Incidentally, I am now receiving email notices of your blog posts, but only with an email address that is different from the one listed above.
