During one of the sessions where we ran the white horses through a marsh at sunset here in the Camargue region of southern France, I suggested to my group they use a wide angle lens and include the sky. In this shot, I included two of the French cowboys who ran with the horses and guided them through the water. To get this semi-silhouette, you don't have to underexpose. Simply by including the sun in the frame, particularly in the center of the frame, the meter automatically causes the underexposure. In post-processing, I applied the 'tonal contrast' filter inside of Nik Color Efex Pro 4 for additional visual impact. My settings were 1/1250, f/8, and the auto ISO feature chose 400.
