This is a composite of three images. First, I photographed the puppy in the attractive shopping bag with a piece of black velvet in the background. I specifically used the velvet so I could separate the dog’s white hair from the black color using the ‘lighten’ blend mode which is found in the layers palate. The model is my wife, Indiana, and I asked her to hold her hand as if she were holding a string connected to the bag. The storefront is an attractive window display in Saltzburg, Austria that I shot with a shutter speed of 1/30th of a second as I panned horizontally. In Photoshop, I carefully placed the string in my wife’s hand, and then with the pen tool I made a precise selection of my wife and pasted her in front of the background. Finally, using the burn tool, I made shadows beneath the shoes because everything casts a shadow, even in soft light.
